Urogynaecology and pelvic floor health

My work

I am a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, part of Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

My main interests are urogynaecology, which is the care of bladder and prolapse problems, and pelvic health during and after pregnancy. I also look after women with general gynaecology problems such as heavy periods, fibroids, pelvic pain and the menopause.

At the trust I am the clinical lead for two services. The Perinatal Pelvic Health service helps women with bladder, bowel and pelvic floor problems in pregnancy and after birth. The OASI service looks after women who have had a severe tear during childbirth. I set up the pathways that bring doctors, midwives and specialist physiotherapists together for this care.

My approach

How I work

Ask about anything

Many of the problems I treat are common, yet women often wait years before they ask for help. Nothing you tell me will surprise or embarrass me.

Know your choices

My aim is that you leave your appointment knowing what is going on and what your choices are.

Surgery is one option

Surgery is one option among several. For many women, physiotherapy, a change in routine, medicine or a pessary works well.

When an operation is the right choice, I will explain what it involves, the benefits and the risks.
